Student Visa Application

As governed by the Hong Kong Immigration Regulations, overseas exchange-in students must obtain a student visa before coming to Hong Kong for the purpose of study at HKUST. While HKUST will provide assistance, to the admitted exchange students, in the application of the student visa in Hong Kong, HKUST bears no responsibility with regard to the issuance of the student visa.

Incoming students should submit the completed visa application form together with the following supporting documents by late November:

1. The completed visa application form (ID995A) with ALL PAGES signed physically by the applicant.
2. A copy of page(s) of applicant's passport with personal particulars and signature.
3. Proof of financial support, e.g. bank statements, savings account passbooks that shows:
     - FULL name of account holder
     - Name of bank
     - Ending balance with currency
4. A copy of the admission offer letter (available after the online application is completed)

If the financial support is not in English, a translation will be required. For students who are financially supported by parents/guardian, a letter of consent from them stating they will financially support your stay in Hong Kong is required.

The fee for student visa/entry permit application via HKUST is HK$550. This is a non-refundable cost-recovery fee which includes the visa / permit application fee charged by the HKSAR Immigration Department and the cost of forwarding the visa / permit label to students. It normally takes 8-10 weeks for the visa to be processed.

For detailed information, please visit the PG Exchange Students webpage.
