HKUST MSc in Economics Alumni and Student Mixer 2026

The HKUST MSc in Economics Program successfully hosted its Alumni and Student Mixer on 18 April 2026, bringing together over 170 alumni, current students, and faculty members for an evening of connection and exchange.

The event began with opening remarks by Prof. Peng Wang (Academic Director, MScECON), who warmly greeted all participants and set a welcoming and engaging tone for the evening.

This was followed by a panel discussion titled “From Economics to Impact: Navigating Careers Across Finance, Technology, and Beyond,” moderated by Prof. Dean He (Associate Director, MScECON). The panel featured Prof. Zhaoli Meng, Dr. Zilei Zhang, Ms. Julie Zhou, Mr. Jackson Wong, Mr. Weiyi Xiao, and Mr. Junhao Zhang. Drawing on their experiences across finance, asset management, technology, and global supply chains, the speakers shared insights on applying economic thinking, adaptability, and continuous learning in a rapidly evolving global economy.

Adding a highlight to the evening, Ms. Yanan Pan (Alumna, 2015-16 Intake) delivered a dance performance, while Mr. Junlin Zhu, a current student, delivered a singing performance. Their performances showcased the diverse talents within the MScECON community and helped create a lively and inclusive atmosphere.

The mixer concluded with a buffet dinner, offering a relaxed setting for the participants to network and reconnect. The strong turnout reflected the vibrancy of the MScECON community and its commitment to fostering lasting relationships beyond graduation.

The Program extends its appreciation to all attendees and looks forward to continued engagement through future events.
