A night of connection, conversation, and celebration!
The MSc Economics Program at HKUST hosted our New Cohort Gathering Night on Saturday, 1 November 2025 — a warm and lively evening where faculty and students came together to mingle, share stories, and enjoy a delicious dinner buffet.
We were honored to open the evening with welcoming remarks from Professor Wooyoung Lim (Head, Department of Economics) and Professor Peng Wang (Academic Director, MScECON), setting the tone for a night of camaraderie and exchange.
The evening also featured a fireside chat moderated by Professor Dean He (Associate Director, MScECON), with guest speaker Professor Lisa Sachs (Director, Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment, Columbia University), who offered thought-provoking reflections on the importance of grounding sustainable finance in economic fundamentals — reminding us that understanding the problem is the first step toward meaningful solutions and that effective financial strategies must begin with a clear understanding of the economic problems they aim to solve.
The MSc Economics Student Committee also took the stage to introduce themselves to the class, sharing their plans to foster engagement and build a vibrant student community throughout the year.
