The HKUST MSc in Economics (MScECON) Program recently concluded an engaging orientation week, welcoming our new cohort of students to the MScECON community.
The week began with the Math Boot Camp, designed to strengthen students' quantitative foundations and equip them for the rigorous academic journey ahead. Alongside their academic preparation, students also participated in Professional Portrait Taking, helping them build a polished professional profile as they embark on the next stage of their academic and career development.
The highlight of the week was the New Cohort Orientation night on Friday, 21 August 2026, which brought over 220 students together for the Program Induction and Welcoming Dinner. The event provided an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about the MScECON program, connect with faculty members, and begin building meaningful friendships with classmates.
The evening started with an opening remark from Prof. Peng Wang (Academic Director, MScECON) who encouraged students to embrace new challenges and make the most of their learning journey at HKUST. Students were also warmly welcomed by Prof. Wooyoung Lim (Head, Department of Economics), who inspired the new cohort to pursue excellence both inside and outside the classroom. The celebration continued with a buffet dinner, providing a relaxed setting for conversations and networking.
From academic preparation to networking and celebration, the orientation week marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our students. We are delighted to welcome them to the MScECON family and look forward to seeing them learn and grow throughout their time at HKUST and beyond.
